Doug Stanhope on Freedom

TiGirl recently told you that Doug Stanhope will officially announce his candidacy for the Libertarian Party presidential nomination on Howard Stern’s Sirius show on May 3rd.

Aside from my silly fantasies of ’shroom love and trampoline bouncing, I think Stanhope has a little something. Please enjoy Stanhope’s “freedom rant” courtesy of You Tube.

He really is as “merican” as apple pie- too bad people want “C” IVY students to run the country.

I am a Kubby, Ron Paul, Stanhope gal, but no matter my vote, I will only send a message.

Man, I think he may be the best comedian ever. I can’t think of anyone else who can make me laugh like this, and at the same time make so much sense. LOVE it!

Here’s a great clip of Alex Jones opening up for Doug Stanhope at a club in Austin, Texas.

In addition to being funny, there were also a lot of good legitimate points made. What I really like about this is that it brings up serious important issues in an entertaining manner and it can reach people that may not pay attention otherwise.

Exactly, I like how he dealt with the hecklers. I don’t know if I would/could handle it like he did. And yes, his audience consists of people who probably wouldn’t listen otherwise.

A lot of those people who pay little to no attention to politics are the people that the Libertarian Party needs to reach out to the most. I’ve long thought that the largest pool of potential Libertarian converts are in the independent or non-voter category. Those people who make comments like, “Why bother voting? They’re all crooks!” or “I hate the government!” or “I just want to be left alone!” or “I don’t indentify with either major party.” are people who SHOULD be voting Libertarian. The only problem is reaching out to and getting through to these people. Doug Stanhope could be a guy who would be good at doing this.

    That was awesome.

    Andy,
My thoughts EXACTLY - I think these are the people that the L’s need to tap into.
